CIML's membership progression follows a clear, structured pathway from Affiliate through to Fellow, with each grade reflecting a higher level of professional experience and leadership impact.

2–4 years experienceStrategic leadership, project management, business intelligence, data analytics, and CPD compliance at higher levels.
5–7 years experienceAdvanced leadership, governance, mentoring, and demonstrated organisational or sectoral impact with CPD compliance.
7–9 years experienceThe highest attainable grade — recognising exceptional leadership, governance, and profound professional contribution.

How to Apply
Follow the structured application process to submit your upgrade request and supporting documentation to the CIML Secretariat.

Obtain the required professional endorsements from CIML members:
Submit payment of the membership upgrade processing fee as determined by CIML via the Member Portal or bank transfer.
The Upgrade Committee reviews your application and communicates the outcome within 4–6 weeks of submission.
Processing Time: Outcomes are communicated within 4–6 weeks of full application submission. Ensure all documents are complete to avoid delays.
CPD Compliance
Continuous Professional Development is mandatory for all upgrades and must align with the competencies of your target membership grade.
Evaluation Framework
All upgrade applications are assessed against five weighted criteria. Members must meet minimum standards across all criteria for a successful outcome.

After Upgrade
You may immediately begin using your upgraded membership designation and post-nominal letters in all professional communications.
Receive an official CIML Certificate of Upgraded Membership and formal listing in the CIML Membership Registry.

Appeals Process
Members who receive an unfavourable upgrade decision have the right to appeal within 30 days. All appeals are reviewed by an independent committee.
Contact the SecretariatLodge your appeal in writing within 30 days of receiving the upgrade decision notification from CIML.
The CIML Appeals Committee — entirely independent of the Upgrade Committee — reviews all submitted evidence and documentation.
The final decision is communicated to the member in writing within 30 days of the appeal submission. This decision is conclusive.
