Standard Membership Progression

CIML's membership progression follows a clear, structured pathway from Affiliate through to Fellow, with each grade reflecting a higher level of professional experience and leadership impact.

Foundational applied experience, ethical practice, and CPD compliance. Ideal for professionals beginning their management journey.

Application Procedures

Follow the structured application process to submit your upgrade request and supporting documentation to the CIML Secretariat.

Submit Upgrade Application

Complete the Membership Upgrade Application Form and attach all required supporting documentation:

  • Updated CV detailing professional experience, achievements, and leadership roles
  • CPD portfolio/log demonstrating annual compliance
  • Portfolio of projects, applied research, or mentoring activities (if applicable)
  • Leadership statement for Full Member → Fellow applications

Secure Endorsements

Obtain the required professional endorsements from CIML members:

  • Affiliate → Associate / Associate → Full: One endorsement from a CIML member of equal or higher grade
  • Full Member → Fellow: Two endorsements from CIML Fellows or senior members demonstrating your professional impact

Pay Processing Fee

Submit payment of the membership upgrade processing fee as determined by CIML via the Member Portal or bank transfer.

Await Assessment Outcome

The Upgrade Committee reviews your application and communicates the outcome within 4–6 weeks of submission.

Assessment Matrix

All upgrade applications are assessed against five weighted criteria. Members must meet minimum standards across all criteria for a successful outcome.

Appealing an Upgrade Decision

Members who receive an unfavourable upgrade decision have the right to appeal within 30 days. All appeals are reviewed by an independent committee.

Lodge your appeal in writing within 30 days of receiving the upgrade decision notification from CIML.

The CIML Appeals Committee — entirely independent of the Upgrade Committee — reviews all submitted evidence and documentation.

The final decision is communicated to the member in writing within 30 days of the appeal submission. This decision is conclusive.
